Kids love to surround themselves with their most treasured possessions. They know and understand the drive to collect the things they love. Some of us grow out of that love as we get older, and some of us never quite let go of the urge to collect. If you want to share in the magic of finding and collecting things with your child, here are some great options to get you started.

Book Sets

Whether your child is already a fan of reading, or you’re looking for a way to get them excited about reading, this is a great collectible option. A lot of the best kids’ books are serialized. That means you can get each book as it comes out. There is something extraordinary about having a full set of books with matching artwork.

If you don’t mind spending a little more, you could choose to go for the hardcover versions. These can be more collectible down the line. They also tend to stand up to the passage of time better as well.

TV Show Merchandise

If your kid has a favorite TV show, then this can be a goldmine of merchandise. Even the most obscure shows have backpacks, lunch boxes, and figurines, branded with their particular artwork style.

Whether the show becomes a big hit or just fizzles after one season, these branded items can become really lovely momentos for both you and your child. They can end up being the hallmark of certain stages of your kid’s life. After all, you’ll never forget the time when you were forced to watch every episode of Pete The Cat in endless loops during lockdown.

Dolls

For some kids, dolls are a bit like magnets. You can pretty much guarantee that dolls and all their accessories will always have a special place in your child’s heart. They are the perfect toy, the one that they will keep coming back to all the way through their childhood. A really great collection will become something that they will treasure even as an adult.

When it comes to dolls, there are so many options. There are, of course, the classic Barbie dolls. You can collect all the different versions and their outfits and accessories as well. If Barbie isn’t your cup of tea, you could go for lifelike baby dolls. There are so many different varieties out there that you can have fun finding your and your child’s favorite.

Toy Cars

The fascination with cars starts early with many kids. These are a great collectible because there are so many options. If your child really does get hooked on collecting toy cars, then you never really need to worry about what to buy for them again.

Toy cars come in a variety of sizes and styles. You can get loads of realistic replicas of real vehicles. It’s an excellent way for you to buy that supercar you’ve been eyeing up but really can’t afford to include in your life. If you’re a bit more whimsical, you can find toy models of pretty much any car that has ever been featured in a movie.

Then there are, of course, the toy cars that you can race. So this includes RC cars as well as track-based ones like Scalextric. The possibilities are endless, and so are the gift-buying options down the line.

Puzzles

Jigsaw puzzles aren’t just a great way to pass the time. For young kids, they teach problem-solving and pattern recognition skills. They’re also an excellent tool for teaching kids the value of patience and perseverance.

The other wonderful thing about jigsaw puzzles is that there are so many different designs and even types of puzzles to collect and try. If your child loves puzzles, then there are endless options, including animals, maps, and cartoon characters. As they get older, their collection can grow with them. You might even venture into the world of 3D puzzles.

Lego

Lego is another superb collectible option. With so many specialized sets to pick from, there is a never-ending list of options to find and add to your collection. Even if your child isn’t that thrilled about building with Lego, they might get excited about the model people and animals, believe it or not, and there is a massive selection of each of these to choose from.

If you find that your kid’s Lego collection is beginning to spiral out of control, there are some great Lego storage solutions, a few of which are collectible in their own right. Especially the Lego block-shaped Lego storage bins!

Long Story Short

If your kid has the collecting bug, there are loads of ways to start a kid-friendly collection with them. Finding the next must-have item for their set can be an enjoyable activity that you can share for years to come.
